Lochem on the map
“How might we create a memorable experience for the visitors (and residents) of Lochem to get Lochem more known to outsiders and to make residents of the city feel more connected to it.”
Lochem is not the first city you think of when planning a weekend trip, but you would be surprised how much character a small city can have. We worked together with design studio MNDAY on the challenge to make this city memorable, also by including the citizens and entrepreneurs of Lochem
I focused on inclusive design for this project. I conducted my research in a variety of ways to learn more about the residents of Lochem. We spend a lot of time in Lochem conducting interviews and doing experiments. The Hay Picker route is the final idea. A historical figure known as the hay picker defended Lochem against a Spanish attack during the eighty-year war. There will be 11 spots around the city with objects that tell the history of Lochem. A concealed hay picker will be present surrounding the objects in every place. The locations together form a walking and cycling route around Lochem.
