Minor Global Awareness
South Africa

The last semester of my studies I took an additional minor abroad. In the Global Awareness minor, I lived in South Africa for six months, experiencing all the cultural differences that come with it. I worked at four organizations on different projects. I lived with other students from different studies in a small village that was two hours from Cape Town called Genadendal. During my stay in South Africa, I grew mainly on a personal level.

Mind over Matter:

Mind over Matter is an organization that works with people with disabilities from the area. They provide day care for these clients. At this organization, I came up with new products that they could make. I mainly designed products with leather. I also helped structure the organization, organize the 15th anniversary and create a new corporate identity.

L.R. Schmidt Primary school:

At this elementary school, I taught handicraft and craft classes.

Marshall Rinquest:

Marshall is according to the internet a real-life eco-hero. He is a man with a lot of connections and projects in the area of Genadendal. With Marshall, I did several projects. The biggest project was designing an outdoor classroom for the local high school. I also worked on designing a horse cart, teaching eco-classes at the private school and helping develop the Valley Food Gardens.

Emil Weder High School:

I was asked to create an idea for the future appearance of the rugby field behind the Emil Weder High School. The school requested a clubhouse, a field with multiple uses, changing areas, and a stand.
